Princess Competition “I make an appeal to the city generally to support the Princess competition,” said the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, at the meeting of the National Confidence Carnival General Committee at the Town Hall on Monday night The indications for a successful carnival were most favourable, the Mayor continued. The various committees had been working hard. They already knew the general programme of the carnival, but some other things were going on at present. It was being realised that some of these events were to provide the expenses of the carnival, and one of them was the Princess competition. They were relying on the funds from this to meet the expenses of the carnival. He hoped the 30,000 votes already recorded, would be increased tenfold. Mr. A. S. Wemyss, organiser for the Community Services Princess, said he appreciated the stress laid by the Mayor on the Princess competition, which was the factor which would make the carnival a financial success. It was not desired that people should “sit back” and wait for Carnival Week, but they should realise that the Princess contest was one of the main things in the carnival, and that it was on now-.
