Figures for October RECORD SALES TAX Best Total for 21 Months Substantial increases are shown in the totals for. net Customs, petrol and beer duties collected at the port oi Wellington in October, compared with October, 1932, While the revenue from sales tax is by far the largest for any one month since the tax came into force last February. The net Customs revenue collected last month totalled £190,166, the hugest. figure since January, 1932, compared with £144,557 last month, an increase of £45,609, and £169,716 for October, 1932, an ineretse of £20,4;>0. For- the ten months of the current year the net Customs revenue is £1.59t»,861, compared with £1,714,259 for the corresponding period of last year, a (leerease of £118.398. Motor Spirit and Tires. The duty collected on motor-spirit last month totalled. £34,428 at 6d a gallon and £22,960 at 4d a gallon, a total of £57,388, compared with £35,089 at 6d a gallon and £11,696 at 2d a gallon, a total of £46,785 for October, 1932, an increase of £10,603. As.,can be seen from the totals at 6d a gallon, there would have been a small decrease instead of a large increase but for the increase of 2d a gallon'in the tax which came into force last February. .The amounts collected afairt from that at 6d a gallon are already Included in the net Customs revenue given above, being paid Into the Consolidated Fund as distinct from that at 6d a gallon, which goes to the Main Highways Fund. The petrol figures for' the ten months are £564,095 and £480,312 respectively, an increase of £83,783. Collections of tire tax last month totalled £1139, as compared with £1497 for October last year, a decrease of £358. For the ten months there is a decrease of £IS3L the figures being £13,054 and £15,485 respectively. . , ■ Beer Duty and Sales Tax. Beer excise for October amounted to £5830, as against £5201 for October, 1932, an increase of £629. For the ten months the figures are £43.073 and £49,624 respectively, a decrease of £6551. Collections of sales tax for October,' the heaviest total for a single month, amounted to £53,953, compared with £40,174 for September, £40,865 ‘for August, and £42,853 for July. This tax came Into operation on February 10 last, and the. total so far collected at Wellington Is £347,247. OTHER CENTRES . By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland.—The highest, monthly total for more than three years, that is, since August 1030, has been reached by Customs duties collected at Auckland' in October. The amount Is £211,373, showi-'g a large increase over the collections for October 1932, which totalled £158,863. The previous best monthly total this year was that for August, with £202,802. Every month except June shows an increase over the same month of last year. For the ten months of the year Customs (pities collected total £1,816,738, an increase of £190,607 on the same period of last year. Motor spirit and tire duties have yielded £403,864 this year, an increase of £9132. Excise duty on beer for the ten months amounts to £103.569, an increase of £5Oll.
