A UNIQUE RECORD

Mr. Robert Parker, C.M.G. WORK FOR ST. PAUL’S Mr. Robert Parker, choirmaster and organist at St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, persists in breaking his own .record. Yesterday week he concluded his fiftyfifth year in the position he now holds with such distinction, and in celebration of the event Canon Percival James took occasion to remark on the remarkable achievement of Mr. Parker, and the efficiency of the choir under his control. It may be remarked that even if Mr. Parker has well passed the half-century of service in the old church in Mulgrave Street he has during the last few years given his congregation and the music lovers of Thorndon some of the most beautiful of church music, demonstrating that his mind is as fresh and adventurous as it ever was. To mark the inauguration of his fifty-sixth year, a special recital will be given in the Pro-Cathedral to-mor-row evening, when Miss Ava Symons, Wellington’s brilliant solo violinist, will join with Mr. Parker in duets for violin and organ. The choir will contribute choral numbers, and solos will be sung by Miss Molly Atkinson, Miss Nora Houghton, and Mr. C. A. Williams, with Mrs. Furner Steers at the pianoforte. An offertory will tie taken for the Pro-Cathedral Choir fund.
