B Grade Championship J. BOLTON THE WINNER At the end of a series of consistently good performances in races held this season, J. Bolton led the field home in a second-class championship time trial road race on Saturday afternoon, over a 23mile course, by the Poneke Amateur Cycling Club. H. Houston, the junior champion, was runner-up. J. King, last year’s holder, did not compete. The race started from Kilbirnie Post Office, the course being two circuits of the Breaker Bay cutting route. Mitchell was the first rider to leave the mark, but punctured soon after the start. Flett and Aldridge also met with machine trouble. When the first lap was covered, Bolton was leading Houston by lmin. ssec., followed by Mulholland, Puniti, and Evans. In the concluding lap Bolton rode even better, coming home ahead by 2min. lusec. The North Island professional championship race from Cambridge to Papakura resulted in a win for Vi. Hills, Auckland (39 minutes), whose riding time was 4hr. 3rnin. 31sec. Other placings were: W. Hansen, M hakatane (14min.), 3hr. 40min. bsec., 2; G. Green, Whakatan? (26min.), 3hr. omin. 7sec., 3; H. Lewis, Waharoa (ob min.), 4hr. Grain. 31see., 4. Fastest time was made by A; Ralston, Otago’ (scr,), 3hr. 34min. 20sec. The latter established a new: record, the previous record being 3hr. 49tnin. oi l-ssec. established by W. Harcourt in 1929. 100-Milc Championship By Telegraph.—Press Association. Cliristchurch, October 15. The hundred miles amateur road championship cycle race was held ou Saturday over the “round the Gorges” course. 'The race was won bv E. Jones (35min.), R. W. Marks (35min.). was second, and L. Fever (28min.), third, and R. J. Kennedy (24min.), fourth. Fastest time was made by F. J. Grose, 4hr. 33min. 26sec. Riding from scratch, he finished iu tenth place. J. L. Richards, also from scratch, made second fastest time, and finished eight minutes behind Grose. Fifty-mile Event By Telegraph.—Press Association. New Plynwutlj, October 15. The North Island 50-mile road cycling championship was won by R. Yardley (New Plymouth), in a race from New Plymouth to Rungarehu and back. There were 26 competitors. L. Heatley (Urenui) was first home, but Yardley gained fastest time of 2hr. 2mm. 53 l-ssec. Australian Events By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received October 15, 7 p.m.) Melbourne, October 15. In a cycling race from Colac to Melbourne, a distance of 100 miles, A. C. Pearse (37min.) was first, his time being 4 hours 8 minutes 49 seconds. G. Swan (42min.) was second, his time being 4 hours 13 minutes 49 seconds. B. A. Rudd (44min.) was third, his time being 4 hours 15 minutes 15 seconds. The Warrnambool to Melbourne race resulted as follows: —L. Willoughby (48 min.), 1; A. J. King (4min.), 2; L. F. Anderson (48min.), 3.. Willoughby won by inches, his time being 7 hours 5 minutes 55 seconds. Palmerston-Wellington The secretary of the Wellington Cycling Centre (Mr. P. N. Robinson) stated on Saturday that, owing possibly to a proposal a few weeks ago to'post-, pone the event, and make it one of the carnival attractions in 'November, some imisapprehension appeared to exist as to the date of the annual Palmerston North to Wellington cycle road race. Particularly was this so in centres outside Wellington. He said that the race was'to be held on Saturday next, and that late entries would be accepted until Wednesday. ________.
