The effective removal of stains often present many difficulties to the housewife. This is due to want of knowledge of the right mediums io employ. The following hints will prove helpful : — Kalsomined walls which are stained with grease can l>e cleaned by applying a paste made from Fuller's earth and water. Apply the paste liberally. Allow to stand for two days to absorb the grease before removing. Grease spots on suede ishoes will disappear if rubbed with ar cloth dipped in glycerine.
Scorch marks, if they fire only slight can often be removed if sponged at once with vinegar. Scorches of a, more serious nature will yield to treatment by chloride of Hine paste. Tea stains on table linen can be removed by rubbing with borax and steeping in boiling water. Stockings that become marked at the ankles with boot-polish stains can be effectively treated by applying methylated spirits. Water stains on silk can often be removed by soaking them in methylated spirits and then washing slowly in tepid soapy water. Tar stains can be. removed by the application of eucalyptus oil; washing afterward in warm suds.
