GUNPOWDER IGNITES

Man Burned by Explosion Dominion Special Service. Auckland, September 1. As the result of an explosion of gunpowder at his home .in Brecon Road, Stratford, Mr. W. R. Mark was severely burned on the hands and face. After receiving attention he was admitted to the hospital. The powder was three years old and had been lying outside for the last four days in tka rain. Mr. Mark Intended to dig it into the ground, but before he did so his son, aged 12, asked to see some of it explode. Mr. Mark separated a small quantity and put a match to it, though he doubted if it would even catch alight owing to its age and dampness The flash from the separated quantity, however, was sufficient to explode the bulk. The boy, who was standing by, was singed on one wrist, but did not need medical attention. _____________
