Modern Languages Chair NEW PROFESSOR CHOSEN By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, August 28. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College to-day selected Professor C. Malthus to occupy, the Chair of Modern Languages, left vacant by the resignation of Professor T. G. R. Blunt. Professor Malthus at present is in the University of Tasmania. He was educated at Timaru High ’ School and Canterbury College, taking his M.A. degree with first-class honours in 1912 in English and French, He taught at b(elson College till 1914. After two years’ active service he was appointed senior master In French and English at Timaru. In 1920 he was chosen first travelling scholar in French and spent a year at the So-bonne, Paris, and a year; at Grenoble. In 1922 he returned to Timaru, but was appointed lecturer in modern languages at the University of Tasmania, and in 1932 was given the status of associate professor.
