EARL BEAUCHAMP

Passenger on Makura HEALTH VISIT TO TAHITI Earl Beauchamp, who ’was a Governor of New South Wales more than 30 years ago, was among the passengers on the Makura, which arrived in Wellington from Sydney yesterday morning. Earl Beauchamp, who visited New Zealand last year, will continue on the Makura to Tahiti, where he intends staying for some time to recruit his health. Earl Beauchamp was Governor of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901. He is the seventh earl of a peerage created in 1815, and has occupied many important positions in England, including those of Chancellor of the University of London, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Gloucester, Lori President of the Council, and First Commissioner of Works. Ho has been Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports since 1913. While in New Zealand last year Earl Beauchamp visited Rotorua. “I spent a very pleasant time there," he said yesterday, “and wherever I have been I have sung the praises of the baths ever since.” He is travelling north with the intention of “finding some sun,” which is the reason for Tahiti being his next place of sojourn. He intends to return later to Sydney to meet one of his sons there.
