High Standard of PlayNEW RULES OBSERVED The 1033 hockey season opened oilicially on Saturday afternoon, most Of the main games being [Jaycd at Karori Park. There was a fair attendance of spectators. For the most part, the standard of play was well above that which is usually expected on the opening day. the senior A games being especially good. An interesting game at Karori was that between Huia and ’Varsity in the A grade, lluia arc a now entry into the senior A grade, and after a good, even game, defeated their opponents. Karori proved too strong for Wesley, and Wellington, last season’s A grade champions, who were playing at Lower Hutt, beat Hutt. In the senior B grade. Karori completely rouled Wesley in a rather uninteresting game, and 'Varsity A. after a close contest, beat Huia. The new hockey rules, as laid down, by the International Hockey Board. Scorers for Karori were: Watchman (2), Adams and Jeromsou. Elias and Butcher were the Wesley scorers. Messrs. C. Whyte and D. Burgess were the referees. HUIA v. ’VARSITY. The Huia-’Varsity fixture resulted in the former winning by 2 goals to 1. The score at half-time was 1 all. Cooper and Martin scored the Huia goals, and A. Struthers netted for ’Varsity. Messrs. 11. Hatch and H. J. Smith were the referees. WELLINGTON v. HUTT. Playing at Lower Hutt, Wellington beat Hutt by 2 goals to 1. The half-time score was 1 all. Burton and Rusbbridge scored for Wellington, and Bishop for Hutt. Mr. AV. A. Scott was the referee. SENIOR B 'VARSITY A v. HUIA. 'Varsity A beat Huia by 3 goals to 2. The hnlf-thne score was 2 all. Mac Duff scored two o fthe'Varsity A goals, and Arlow the third. Elliott scored both the Huia goals. Messrs. AV. Purvcs and A. Neewham were the referees. KARORI v. AVESLEY. Karori completely outclassed AVesley tn a game that ended : Karori 7, Wesley 0. The half-time score wns 2 —4). P. Aciams scored six of the Karori goals, and Brown Ihe seventh. Messrs. R. P.
