Sir,---In these times when economies are looked for on tlie part, of the council, it is periiuenl; to inquire whether the si-heme advocated by his AVorsbip the Mayor for a shorter access to the suburbs in the west is favoured or opposed by candidates seeking election next. Air, Hislop Jias shown very conclusively the savings which can be effected by the adoption of shorter access throug.l Sydney Street, but candidates have cither ignored the importance of this to those resident in tlie western suburbs, or else have failed to study the matter.
