DOUBLE TRAGEDY

Man and Woman Dead RAZOR NEAR BODIES Discovery at Palmerston FORMERLY ENGAGED PAIR Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, April 12. A double tragedy occurred in the city this evening, » young man and woman being found with their throats cut. The dead are:— Nella Motley, single, aged 2G. Arthur Soley, aged about 30. At about 7.35 o’clock this evening, Miss Motley, who was employed in the San Toy tea-rooms, in Rangitikei Street, which are owned by her parents, left the premises, going out into the back-yard. Before going out she was talking to her father, her sister, and a Mr. E. Jensen in the kitchen. It is stated that a man’s voice called for her to come out. She had not been long out of the room when her father heard a tapping noise on the wall. On going outside he found his daughter and the man Soley lying ou the ground. Their throats liad been cut. There was a razor nearby. The girl was still alive, but died a few minutes later. Soley died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. It is understood that Miss Motley and Soley had been engaged, but that the Ohgagement was broken off recently. Soley had previously worked at the tea-rooms, but at the time of the tragedy he was unemployed. It is reported that he was seen outside the tea-rooms about 6 o’clock this evening. The mother of the dead woman was away at the time the tragedy occurred.
