DISTRESS RELIEF FUND
Lord Bledisloe’s Action Appreciated “The outstanding feature in connection with relief effort just now is his Excellency the Governor-General's appeal for a large fund of money and material,” said the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, at the opening of the Smith Family relief conference yesterday morning. “I do not know much about the scheme or how it is to be run, but I assume that the distribution will be pro rata according to the need of the unemployed. “I wish to show my appreciation of the action of his Excellency, and have no hesitation in urging our countrymen to support the scheme his Excellency has launched.”
