Hutt Valley Tram Scheme (From "The Dominion," Mar. 17, 1908.) The proposal for a Hutt S alley tramway scheme which has been in the air for some time past, has now taken definite form, and we print the ’ r ep°“ of t'he engineers to the Lower Hutt and Petone borough councils, Messrs. Rix-Trott and W. H. Cook, who were instructed to draw up a scheme for submission to the Joint Tramway Committee appointed by the two bodies to go into the matter. “After carefully considering the various methods adopted at Home and on the Continent, we have decided that in view of the possible linking up of the tramway systems of Wellington and this district in the future, no other than the overhead trolley system would meet this requirement,” states the report, which sets the estimated cost of the scheme at £85,766, an average cost per mile of tramway laid of £7652 13/6. • ♦ ♦

A fact not without significance in the light of recently-awakened interest in matters educational throughout the Dominion is that the present Parliament contains more graduates of the New Zealand University than any of its predecessors, there being six representatives of that institution sitting in the House.

Pearson, the cyclist, rode from Sydney Post Office to Melbourne Post Office in 57 hours 32 minutes, a record.

The Hon. James Gully, eldest son of Viscount Selby, who is separated from his wife and who recently ran away to. Sweden with his ten-year-old child, has surrendered on a charge of abducting his daughter and been lodged in Brixton prison.
