DAMAGE TO HIGHWAYS
Flooding on West Coast WORK OF RESTORATION Full reports on the flood damage round the West Coast were placed before the monthly meeting of the Main Highways Board yesterday. Mr. C. J. McKenzie presided. - It was reported that a number of floods had caused severe damage to highways in the vicinity of Otira Gorge and that some of the washouts were sufficient to cause blockage to traffic. It was decided to authorise the funds required to restore the road for traffic. The road over Arthur’s Pass, which has been closed for some weeks, will open as soon as necessary repairs can be effected. . Applications for sealing works in the Wellington district were received, but it was decided that nothing could be done because of the shortage of funds. The money available was required for immediate maintenance work.
