rj.RETA GARBO owes her screen eareer to a chance assignment' to act

as hat model in a store in Sweden, her native country. /When Greta was fonts teen years old her father died, and she went to work as an assistant, in the hat section of a department store in Stockholm. The advertising manager needed a hat model one day and Greta Garbo was chosen for the job. Thus a Captain Ring became interested in her and gave her a start in films in a short commercial picture in which she displayed store models of hats. Eric Petschler, the Swedish comedy director, saw the hat film and gave Greta a screen test. The test showed such promise that she was signed to play in a comedy.
