“Cat” Burglar Climbs High Obstacles to Warehouse
LARGE QUANTITIES TAKEN
Dominion Special Service. Auckland, Jan- 23.
A robbery was carried out at Auckland during the week-end by a "eat” burglar, who broke into the large warehouse of Aulsebrook and Company and stele a considerable quantity of goods in boxes. The fact was not discovered until the staff was at work this morning.
To gain entrance to the warehouse the’ burglar had to climb an Sft. corrugated iron fence spiked at the top. Once over the iron fence the intruder climbed 25 feet up a water pipe and succeeded in forcing open a window in a room. From here he got into the confectionery store, where lie made a good selection of boxed sweets. Dozens of boxes had to be lowered by the rope to the yard below, a portion of the rope used being left dangling from one of the windows. Chocolates and other sweets in boxes to the value of £l5 were this morning found hidden under the foundations of an adjoining building. Evidently the thief did not have sufficient time to transport these sweets before daylight, and had an idea of returning for them. Caramels and chocolates by the thousand were distributed in the yard and on the other side of the fence, indicating that some of the cartons and boxes had burst when being hoisted over the high fence. So far it. is impossible for Aulsebrook and Company to estimate correctly the value of the good stolen.
