Large Crowd on Rangatira

TRIP TO THE SOUNDS The Union Company’s turbo-electric ferry steamer Rangatira yesterday made the third of her daylight excursions to Picton this summer. Tlie excursions have been extremely popular, the number travelling yesterday being about 1150, while for the three trips •the Rangatira has carried nearly 5000 passengers. , Weather conditions at Picton yesterday were perfect and though there was a cold southerly blowing in Cook Strait it did not trouble those on board either going or coming back. The Rangatira, which carried a dance orchestra of 16, left Wellington at 5.5 a.m. yesterday and reached Picton at 10.40 a.m. There was plenty for the excursionists to do at Picton. A large contingent took advantage of the Railway Department’s special excursion to Blenheim and ’ back. Others availed themselves of the facilities offered to see the beauties of the Sounds, launches taking sightseers to Orahau Bay, Torea, Thomson’s Bay and Double Bay, while the Tuatea made a ■ three-hour cruise in Queen Charlotte Sound. The Rangatira left Picton again at 2.35 p.m. and arrived back at Wellington at 5.30 p.m., those on board haying spent a thoroughly .enjoyable day.
