THE WOOL MARKET

Home and Continental Demand LONDON VALUES HOLD FIRM London, Jan. 18. The wool sales to-day attracted _an offering of 9450 bales, including 1945 bales of New Zealand. About 8073 bales were sold. Second Auckland Sale To-day

The second Auckland wool sale will be held to-day. The wool is representative of the general Auckland offering. There will be a percentage of lambs’ wool, which was not available for the first sale, and some other choice lots are expected to bring slightly better rates. Stocks in the hands of the manufacturers are low and the general tone of the market, is stronger. Previous sales this season indicate that the buyer is quite prepared to take all the wool offered at current market rates.

One of the results of the past few seasons is that more wool is now iu the growers’ hands than would be the case in normal times. However, the New Zealand grower now shows an inclination to meet the market, which is borne out by the good clearances made .so far this season. If the present market tone is maintained throughout the season, the. total clearance should be substantially in advance of recent years.
