Industry in New Zealand
Thp sixth annual conference of the New Zealand Motion Picture Exhibitors’ Association was held in Wellington yesterday, Mr. 11. W. Shortt presiding in the absence of Mr. Beaumont Smith, the retiring president. The following delegates were present: —E. Morse (North Auckland), G. Calder, S. Tombs, J. Carroll (Waikato), Mrs. Frewin and E. Norden (Taranaki) : N. Hayward (Wanganui); F. Groombridge and IV. E. Barlow (Manawatu) ; W. Eyre (Wairarapa) : 11. W. Thompson and R. J. Tierney (Hawke’s Bay) ; R. Veen, T. Craigie, and J. Lanrenson, and Vi. E. Carlson (Wellington) : E. Priddlo (Marlborough) ; H. Morgan (West Coastl ; 11. Righton and O. N. Gillespie (Christchurch and Canterbury) : C. C. Knight (T’:naru) : J. Mason (Dunedin) ; A. J. McCurdy (Southland). Various remits of importance to the cinema industry were discussed. Short talks on aspects of theatre advertising were given by A. IU JVicElwftin (Fuller-Hayward Theatre Corporation, Ltd.), and Mr. O. W. Gillespie. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. H. W. Shortt: vice-president, Mr. W. Burton; Dominion executive, Messrs. W. , K - J. B. Carlson, O. N. Gillespie, W, R. Kemball, Jun., E. J. Righton, Beaumont Smith, Gordon Harcourt. On the motion of the chairman, a vote of appreciation of the services ot Mr. J. Robertson, Dominion secretary, and his assistant, Mrs. L. Maries, was carried with acclamation.
Mt. Bernard Shaw will give an address in the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, on April 11 as a guest of the Academy of Political Science. It is stated in London that Miss Diana Fishwick is certain to go to New Zealand and Australia with the English woman’s golf team, if selected. It. is believed that the team will be excep-
