SERIOUS SETBACK

N.Z. Embargo on Australian Fruit Sydney, Jan. 18. An inter-State citrus growers’ convention at Gosfdrd discussed the New Zealand embargo on Australian fruit. Mr. F. Metters, the chairman of the Citrus Council of Australia, declared that the New Zealand embargo constituted the most serious setback which the citrus growers had suffered in recent years. It would mean that 300,000 bushels of citrus fruits would have to be diverted to local markets which were usually glutted. The convention passed a resolution directing the Prime Minister’s attention to the seriousness of the position, urging immediate action with a view to lifting the embargo.
