RAILWAY CONTROL
Consolidation Urged in Canada (Received Jan. 17, 5.5 p.m.) Toronto, Jan. 16. The consolidation of the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways into one system under one management, and a reduction in railway mileage to the country’s actual needs, were urged by Mr. E. W. Beatty, president of the Canadian Pacific Railway, in addressing the Canadian Club to-day.' The control and management, he said, should be accompanied by a proper measure of -responsibility on some agreed basis,’’either by the Government to the Canadian Pacific Railway and its shareholders or by the Canadian Pacific to the Government in relief of the railway burden.
