Permits for buildings to the value o£ £O5 were issued by the Petone Borough Council during_December. Fees collected amounted to 15/-. Various improvements have been effected to tlie Petone Recreation Ground during December. The flower beds have been weeded, and seedlings have been planted. In North Park, No. 1 wicket has been returned and the grounds rolled and mowed. BOROUGH BUSINESS Petone Council Meets The Tetone Borough Council held its regular meeting last night, the Mayor, Mr. D. McKenzie, presiding. There were present: Crs. C. P. Brockelbank, J. C« Burns, E. T. E. Hogg, A. Scholefield, H. A. Ryder, V. E. Jacobson," V. A. Noble, and R. W. Toomath. No action was taken relative to a letter from the Kaiapoi Borough Council asking for support of a resolution which was addressed to the Minister of Finance requesting that legislation be brought down to introduce the compulsory reduction in the rate of bank interest. The Eastbourne Borough Council wrote, asking whether the council would agree to the placing of some suitable seat near the telephone box in Buick Street to accommodate intending bus passengers. The request was referred to the town clerk aud the borough engineer. Permission was granted the Petone Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to hold a sports meeting in February on the Recreation Ground, subject to arrangements being made with the Petone Cricket Club. A request from the St. John Ambulance Association for financial assistance, was deferred until the consideration of the estimates. The council accepted the invitation of the Koro Koro Progressive Association to be present, at the official opening of the new Koro Koro Fire Station. An invitation was extended to the Ngaroma Croquet Club and the Central Bowling Club to attend a conference to discuss alterations to their grounds. GOOD SHOOTING SCORES Upper Hutt Club’s Events The Upper Hutt Defence Rifle Club fired the final shoot of the third series at Trentham on Saturday over ranges! of 3()0 and 500 yards. Weather conditions wore good, and some very good scores were recorded, especially at 500 yards, where Dcpnty-Presi-dent B. Dunn was top scorer with a good 48. He was closely followed by D. Purvis. with 46, and H. Whiteman and A. Seott 44 each. Deputy-President B. Dunn was also top scorer at the closer range with 45. With an aggregate total of 94 D. Purvis secured the “leg-in” for a trophy. Details of scores are: —

Next Saturday the ranges will be SOO and 900 yards. TAITA CEMETERY BOARD The Taita Cemetery Board met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. J. Mitchell, presidi ing. There were present Messrs. W. Judd, F. S. Hewer, and G. Judd. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. V. Dyer. The chairman reported, that since the last meeting of the board twenty new seats had been bought for the cemetery. Authority was given for the purchase of the necessary material for water supply extension, and for the tar-sealing of the footpaths' at an estimated cost of £42. . ■ HUTT PERSONALS Miss Iva McEldowney, Lowry Bay, will leave Wellington by the Wanganella next Friday on her return to Majorca. Mrs. Philip Hanna and family has returned home to Wellington from holidays at Muritai. .
