“Spirit of Fun” Down DEATH OF THE PILOT Two Passengers Injured By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Cape Town, Nov. 17. The American aeroplane, “Spirit of Fun,” crashed at Victoria Falls and the pilot, Captain A. P. Dickson, was killed. The two passengers, Messrs. Loew and J. Rosthal, were slightly injured. . The monoplane flew from Hong-Kong to Johannesburg in seven days, arriving on Friday last. The party started to-day in a dash for London. They had trouble in taking off from the sand and struck a tree. The machine turned several somersaults, and Captain Dickson received fatal injuries. FORCED TO LAND Mrs. Mollison’s Bad Luck LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE official Wireless. Rugby, Nov. 17. Bad luck has overtaken the effort of Mrs. J. A. Mollison (Amy Johnson) to establish fresh records for the EnglandSouth Africa flight, Having flown 4700 miles by the morning of the fourth day of the dash and been considerably ahead of the time established by her husband, during his record flight, she
was this morning forced to land at Benguela, Portuguese West Africa, 1700 miles from the Cape. It is expected that she will continue in a few hours, if repairs are possible, but her prospects of beating the record are now remote. According to a Press Association message Mrs. Mollison has cabled her husband stating that she made a forced landing at Benguela. There was no oil pressure, and she doubts if the defect can be rectified there. V. SMITH MISSING Seventy Hours Overdue I London, Nov. 17. There is no news of Victor Smith, who, flying from the Cape to Croydon, is seventy hours overdue at Niamey, French Sudan.
