ANSWERS TO REQUEST

Two correspondents have kindly sent the following instructions for making effervescing salts: — From'Aurora Terrace: First recipe jib. tartaric acid, ilb. cream of tartar, ilb. carbonate of soda, 11b. icing sugar with few drops essence lemon, 2oz. Epsom salts. Mix all well together, put into bottle with tight lid. Keep dry. Second recipe: Jib. icing sugar, 3oz. Epsom salts, 2oz. tartaric acid, 2oz. cream of tartar, ijoz. powdered magnesia. Mix well together and sift several times, bottle for use, cork tightly, and use dry spoon. From Trentham: Jib. Epsom salts, crushed finely, 41b. carbonate soda, jib. cream of tartar, Jib. tartaric acid. Jib. icing sugar, 2oz. magnesia. Put all together through a sieve several times. Bottle and keep airtight.
