OBITUARY
Mr. George Armstrong
.Mr. George Armstrong, Mayor of Akaroa, died at Christchurch on Sunday in his eightieth year. He had a long record of service in public positions/which he always filled with great ability. The late Mr. Armstrong was Mayor of Akaroa for nearly 30 years, and at the time of his death was also a member of the Peninsula Power Board, the North Canterbury Hospital Board, past chairman of the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, the Takainatua Dairy Company, and the Peninsula Horse Show. He also filled executive positions on most of the local sports clubs and numerous organisations. During the war period the late Mr, Armstrong. gave great assistance to the patriotic movements. In his younger days he was engaged, in farming, from which he retired in 1912, and he had lived in Akaroa since that date. A family of seven are left. Mrs. Armstrong died four years ago, and two sons, Vernon and Lincoln, were killed during the war.
\ Mrs. John Randal
The death occurred at Aratnoho, Wanganui, of Mrs. John Randal, on November 1. Of a quiet, gentle and unassuming nature, Mrs. Randal was highly esteemed by those, who knew her.
Shu devoted her time niostly to the affairs of her household and garden, of which she was particularly ford. It was just a year ago this month that Mr. • and Mrs. Randal celebrated their platinum wedding (65 years), which .was an,event of great interest : in ; the district. She is survived by her■ , husband,‘.’'’two daughters,. Mrs. Whibley '(Wanganui), and‘Miss Randal' (Aramoho), three sons, Mr. F. J. Randal (Litchfield), Mr. W. G. Randal (Blenheim), and Mr. H. S. Randal (Wellington), and several grandchildren.
