WESTERN ACCESS
Civic League Regrets Delay Regret is expressed in the annual report of the Wellington Civic League that the population of the western suburbs is “condemned to a further term of unnecessary and expensive travelling, merely because someone in authority ‘thinks’ noise will be created in the vicinity of the Houses of Legislation, and is therefore able to block progress and stifle economy. If this veto is to be accepted by the council as final,” proceeds the report, “then, the league considers the city authorities should be prepared with an alternative route to these suburbs, as it is imperative that the residents shall be given quicker access, and, at the same time, relieve the ratepayers of the present uneconomical running.”
