WRESTLING MATCHES
Whitman v. McLauchlan Jock McLauchlan, a noted Australian light-heavyweight wrestler, arrived in Wellington last week, under contract to the National Sporting Club. He will be given his initial contest in New Zealand next Saturday night, when he will wrestle the Australian, Hughie Whitman, at the Show Stadium. Whitman holds the middleweight championship of the Southern Hemisphere. McLauchlan, who was introduced to the 'Wellington public before last week’s, Sinclair-Whitman bout, is a wrestler with a sound experience. He has performed in various parts of Canada, U.S.A., and Australia; and has a most imposing record. As an amateur he was runner-up in the American national amateur championships, that were staged m Chicago in the year 1925. He then turned professional, and went to Canada, where he annexed the middle aud light-heavy-weight titles of that Dominion. Before sailing for his homeland McLauchlan returned to U.S.A., ami, at Long Beach, on July, 1928, lie wrestled Ted Thye for the latter’s title of light-heavyweight champion of the world. Tlie men wrestled Cor one hundred and six minutes before the only fall of the contest was registered in the champion's favour. Mamos v. Karasick Harry Mamos, who wrestled in a great bout at Wellington with Dene Detton recently, is to meet Al Karasick at the Town Hall next Monday night. Mamos. who has drawn with George 'Walker, and also Karasick, is one of the toughest men in the game, and he is sure to have a large following when he takes the ring against the Russian Lion. Karasick and Manios wrestled in a great contest at Hamilton some weeks back, and the 'Wellington 'Wrestling Association decided after that bout that the return bout should take place in this city.
