Rugby, Oct. 10A collision occurred in the English Channel yesterday morning between the White Star liner Afric Star, 11,867 tons, bound from London to Buenos Aires, and the Norwegian steamer Charente, 1327 tons, bound from Bordeaux to Oslo. The crew of the Charente, with three passengers, including a woman and small baby, were quickly taken aboard the Afric Star. While this was being doue the Afric Star kept her bow locked in the Charente. Afterwards the Charente sank. The Afric Star returned to London, where it was found that her bows had been damaged.
