FLOOD PREVENTION
Links at Manor Park CONSTRUCTION OF WEIR A request from the Manor Park Golf Club that the Hutt River Board assist in the construction of a weir as a precaution against flooding was acceded to by the board last night. In a letter, the golf club pointed out that after the big flood in 1931, the board’s engineer, representatives of the Hutt Valley Development Company, and the club, discussed the question of erecting a stone weir about 2 feet 6 inches in height along a portion of tbe river bank. Nothing eventuated because of lack of funds as far as the club was concerned. The flood bf a few weeks ago, however, had damaged the links The Hutt Valley Development Company is now prepared to supply a certain amount of labour together with facilities for moving material. The club is also, willing to supply labour, and asks if the board could assist by allowing its engineer to decide the best site for the weir, and in the event of its being erected, to supply one of the board’s staff to direct operations in its construction. It is’ understood that the board had offered to supply sufficient wire netting for the construction of a weir at cost price. The engineer was instructed to con-, fer with the parties in terested.
