Australia’s Exports of Butter BRITAIN TAKES BULK By Telejraph—Press Assn.—Copyright (Rec. September 22, 11.5 p.m.) Canberra, Sept 22. The annual report of the Dairy Produce Control Board reveals that 91,086 tons of butter were exported from Australia last year, being an increase of 17,335 tons over the previous year, and that 83,973 tons went to the United Kingdom. The average weekly price of butter shipped up to June 30, 1932, was 104/6 per cwt., compared with 116/- for 193031. The lower price was due to the depression and the increased Continental competition. The report states that the quality of the butter was high, and that there was an entire absence of complaint. Exports of cheese for the year were 3378 tons, which was slightly below the previous year. The board emphasised that as a result of the Ottawa preferences on butter, cheese, and eggs, local and Dominion exporters should obtain a still larger share of British trade in future.
