“PREMIER v. PEOPLE”

Alleged Seditious Matter EDITOR TO BE TRIED Brisbane, Sept 22. On a charge of having published sedV tious matter under the heading, "Premier versus People,” a former New Zealand journalist, Marrin L. Reading, editor of the “Brisbane Telegraph,” was committed for trial in the Criminal Court on November 14. Bail of £BO was allowed. The case against the publisher, George Melton, was adjourned for a week. In the article a contributor, signing himself “T. Martin,” suggested that the Premier, Mr. Forgan Smith, must be in sympathy with Communists, otherwise he would not allow their processions. The writer urged the formation of a New Guard, and refusal to pay taxes, adding that the people would have the Government at their mercy if only they had courage to act.
