CLOSED RIGHT-OF-WAY

Lyall Bay Seeks ReopeningMention was made of the action of the City Council in closing a right-of-way adjoining the Lyall Bay bowling green in Apu Crescent at a meeting of the Lyall Bay Progressive Association last evening. It was stated that the right-of-way was dedicated to the City Council in 1912 by the original Land Company as a means of access to the reserve. It was temporarily closed in 1927 at the request of the carnival committee, who charged a small admission. Since then the council had, on the advice of the director of reserves, declined to reopen it, making the excuse that a path would be worn across the reserve to the detriment of football grounds. The association desires that the right-of-way be opened again, and Councillors Appleton and Semple, who were present, promised to place the matter before the proper quarters.
