WAS HE BEARDED?

Discussion Over Prophet While a fierce argument is going oh whether the prophet Ezekiel had a beard when he prophesied 2500 years ago, work on the new State Capitol at Lincoln, Nebraska, is held up. On one building is a group of statuary, including a figure of the Old Testament prophet, with a flowing beard. Now someone has raised a perplexing point. In the first verse of the fifth chapter of Ezekiel the prophet records that the Lord commanded him to shave off his beard. Was that before. the period at which he appears in the statuary? If it was, and he obeyed the Lord, he would be smooth-faced, the objector maintains. To show him bearded makes him appear disobedient. A storm is raging on the question. On the side of the sculptor it is argued either that Ezekiel shaved after the date of his appearance in the statuary, or that the beard h'ad had time to grow again.
