CHARITY BALL

Successful Masterton Function Dancers from all parts of the district attended the fifth annual Charity Ball held in Masterton on Wednesday night. The ball was a social success, worthily maintaining the standard set in previous years, and as a result of it a satisfactory sum is expected to be available to the St Vincent de Paul Society for the relief of the poor. The Municipal Hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion, the scheme being a floral one. More than 4000 paper blooms, chiefly tulips and hollyhocks, graced the walls and stage, which was set as a Dutch scene. Hanging baskets of lycopodium graced the ceiling. The effective arrangement of the decorations was carried out under the direction of Mr. L. Robinson. Mrs. J. Mannell supervised the making of the paper flowers, which were the work of a committee consisting of Mesdames A. R. Bunny (convener), Moore, Eastwood, Crosbery, Michell, Mulvey, Hogan, Gaynor, Brooks, Curry, Daube, Hanley, Dwyer, Cooper, Misses D. Frost, B. Frost, K. Wickens, A. Stempa, M. Carter, S. Frost, L. Beals, Margaret Cooper, M. Cooper, M. Savage, A. Savage, and M. Diggins (secretary.). This committee also attended to the supper arrangements. Greenlees, M. Talbot, R. Wadhams, G. Hunter, J. McDonald, T. McCracken, J. Savage, J. Beals, J. Cross. Excellent music was supplied by Mlrilfle’s Orchestra, and extras were blayed by the W.F.C.A. Orchestra. Messrs. J. Bradbury, V. C. Taylor, T. McCracken and T. Wickens Were capable M.C.’s. The chaperons were Mesdames A. R. Bunny, C. H. Hanley, 3. H. Percy, J. C. Cooper, S. E. M. Holmes, C. N. Stillburn, S. Fletcher, J. T. Jameson and Miss Spellman. The joint secretaries, whose organising so largely ensured the success of the evening, were Miss M. Diggins and Mr. A. E. O’Leary.
