METHODIST AUXILIARY
Thanksgiving Offerings On Tuesday last the Wesley Hall was arranged with small tables and bowls ot flowers, the occasion being the reception of the annual thanksgiving offerings from all branches of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary. A fine afternoon made it possible for a large number to assemble. Mrs. H. J. Rowe, president, occupied the chair. Representatives from each branch in turn presented their donations, with a fitting quotation, to the treasurer. Mrs. E. Kellow. These were then dedicated by Mr. J. Voss. J.P., vice-president of the Methodist Conference. The gifts amounted to over £6O. Mrs. E. Goring, who lived in India for eight years, then gave in a clear and interesting way some facts about the 1500 castes of that great country. She told of the change that was taking place, very slowly, among the people, through Christian influence. For instance, in a certain hospital, high-caste Brahmins attended as nurses to the needs of some “untouchables.” proving that “’Tis love, not creeds, that, from a low condition, brings mankind up to heights supreme and grand.” During the afternoon Miss Lilia Hill played a ’cello solo with pianoforte accompaniment by Mrs. Hili. Miss Brittain, A.R.A.M., and Miss Nellie Amies, sang. Mrs. Nicolson, L.A.8., accompanying both. Mrs. L. J. Clark, on behalf of the Wellington Auxiliary Council, presented the assistant-secretary, Miss Lilia Hill, with a dainty bouquet on the occasion of her approaching marriage. A “bring-and-buy” stall, iu charge of Mrs. Lynneberg and others, was well patronised. Afternoon tea, with votes of thanks to all who assisted, brought the proceedings to a close.
