HUTT UNEMPLOYED Latest Registrations Increases in unemployed registrations are still shown in the Hutt Valley, with the exception of Lower Hutt. Registrations at Petone amount to 752, which comprises 106 single men, 231 married nun with no children, 171 married men with one child, 121 married men with two- children, and 123 married men with three or more chil--dren. An increase of nine is noted. At Lower Hutt 880 men are registered as unemployed. This total is made up of 81 single men, 231 married men with no children, 217 married men with one child, 151 married men with two children, and -200 married men with three or more children. . Registrations remain the same as the previous week. There are 316 registered unemployed at Upper Hutt. Illis 'number is composed of 83 single men and 233 married men. An increase of three is shown. FANCY DRESS BALL Pupils of Boulcott School More than 300. children and adults attended Boulcott School pupils’ fancy dress ball held recently in the Knox Hall, Lower-Hutt. , The costumes worn by the children were both original and pretty, arid comprised Indians, fairies, cats, soldiers, sail- i ors, all nations, and many others. The I most outstanding was a quartette of , alpinists. , The programme consisted of grand I marches, folk dances, and songs, the children having been trained for these by Miss Smith (infant mistress), assisted by Misses Monkhouse and Whisker. The pianist was Mr. G. N. Turner, who also assisted at the rehearsals. The judges were Mesdames Nash, Dyer | and Downes, and the prizes were donated by Messrs. 0. Simpson and Dyer, who were presented with bouquets by the senior girls. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. Nash, M.P, The committee desires to thank the staff, especially Miss Smith, Mrs. Taylor (pianist), the decoration -committee (including Messrs. Horn, Skilieter, Austin and Martin), and Mr. Heggie for milk. Also the committee in charge of supper arrangements, including Mesdames Saunders, Morgan, Gearing.- Roche, Driscoll, Evans, Gordon and Melvor. Prizes were awarded as follow:—Senior girls, Verna Weggery. “Early Victorian”; Cynthia Hutchison, “Dutch Girl." Junior girls, Shirley Simpson, “Pink Fairy”; Winnie Turner, "Eastern Princess.” Senior boys, George Jones, “Irish Sweep”; Denis Collinge, “Hussar.” Junior boys, Eric Fraser. “Chinaman”; Ray Mustard, “Petone Wool.” A special prize donated by Mrs. Nash was awarded to Maisie Saunders, “Oranges arid Lemons.” SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY A successful shop day in aid of St. James’s Church funds was held in the small schoolroom yesterday. There was an excellent display of cakes, dainty woolly garments, sweets, and produce, and despite the inclement weather selling was brisk. Morning and afternoon tea were dispensed, and several competi- ; tions proved profitable.

DISTRESS RELIEF Lower Hutt and Petone Activities of the Petone Relief Committee have considerably increased since its inception some two weeks ago. Figures for last week's operations are as follow, the returns for the previous week being given in parentheses:— Meat, 30281 b (25281 b bread, 2120 loaves (1499 loaves); butter, 6871 b (523 J lb) ; potatoes, 2 tons (3 tons 13J cwt.); milk, 1386 pints (177 pints); fuel, 226 bags (316 bags). Operations of the Lower Hutt Relief Committee for the same period are as follow Meat, 36201 b; potatoes, 3 tons 17 cwt.: swedes, : 1401 b; fish. 162,'b; bread, 4352 loaves; butter, 11371 b; milk. 1974 pints. MOERA BOXING CLUB Inaugural Meeting Held As the result of efforts by Messrs. Dunn and Hansen, the first meeting of the Moera Amateur Boxing Club was held recently. Mr. Knight presided over an attendance of 30 prospective members. Excellent prospects for a most successful club are stated to be assured. It will be situated in the racecourse buildings at Hutt Park, the uniform being black with red initials. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. W. Nash. M.P.; president, the Rev. T. F.
