EDUCATION BOARD

Election of Members RECENT POSTAL BALLOT Wellington Urban Area Results were announced yesterday of the biennial election of members of the Wellington Education Board. Mr. C. H. W. Nicholls and Mr. A. C. Blake have been returned as representatives of the Wellington urban area. The poll closed on July 20, but the votes were not counted until yesterday. The reason for this is that the ballot is a postal one, and that the Act, which was passed in the days when the postal service was not as efficient as it is to-day, makes provision for delays in transmission. Those entitled to vote at the election were members of school committees. Elections were required in the Wellington urban area and the Hutt-Pe-tone area only, there being no more than the requisite number of candidates in the other wards. Details of voting are as follow: — WELLINGTON URBAN AREA. Successful. C H. W. Nicholls 133 A. C. Blake H 9 Unsuccessful. F. H. Porter 71 HUTT-PETONE URBAN AREA. Successful. J. Stonehouse 54 Unsuccessful. A. J. Gearing In the Wellington urban area 168 valid votes were cast. Twenty votes were informal.
