Steps for Promotion BRITISH COAL ORDERS (Rec. August 4, 8.30 p.m.) Dublin, August 4. The president of the Executive Council, Mr. E. de Valera, Introduced into the Dail Eireann Supplementary Estimates amounting to £2,000,000. It is officially stated that this sum will be used to promote trade and industry, to open new markets for Irish goods, and to establish new Industries. Despite the 5/- a ton duty, importers persist in ordering* British coal because it is superior and cheaper in the long run than foreign coal. The gas companies say that if they are deprived of British coal, they must Increase the price of gas. Mr. de Valera replied that unless they transfer their orders to the Continent he will impose prohihitive retrospective duties. The Free State Senate by 17 votes to 12 carried Senator Counlhan’s resolution urging the Government immediately to reopen the annuities negotiations. ■
