?outh African Chilled Beef COMMERCIAL SHIPMENT (Rec. August 4, 8.30 p.m.) London, August 4■The first commercial consignment of South African chilled beef following two experimental shipments has been sold at Smithfield and fetched a farthing a pound above heavier Argentine hindquarters. Salesmen declared that though the South Africans have a good deal to learn this shipment “Js miles above” the initial Argentine shipments. The prospects both for Cape farmers and for the hope of a self-supportng Empire are vitally important. The South African consignment was on the hoof bn July 11. It is good, clean, bright meat.
