TRAINING COLLEGES

Comment on Closing “We are disappointed at the result of our efforts and we have done our utmost to assist the Government in its search for economies, even to the extent of suggesting further economies," said Professor'W. 11. Gould, chairman of the Professorial Board of Victoria University College, in referring yesterday to the Government’s decision to close the Wellington and Dunedin Training Colleges for teachers. Professor Gould said the University College Council had offered the services of its professors and lecturers to supplement a reduced lecture staff at the Wellington Training College, but the Minister of Educatlqn had not viewed the proposal favourably. “An educational institution may be closed with ease, but it is quite another matter to build one,”- said Professor Gould.
