CROSS-COUNTRY RACE
N.Z. Championships NO GRANT THIS YEAR With the object of renewing an application for the customary grant of £lO to help finance the Wellington provincial cross-country team to the New Zealand championships, and of seeking a recession of the ruling that the newly-affiliat-ed clubs, Hastings, Presbyterian and Varsity, compete in the A grade at the provincial cross-country chaninionshins before, being admitted to the B. grade, a deputation representing the harrier subcommittee waited upon the executive of the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. at a special meeting yesterday. The deputation was led by Mr. C. A. Willis, chairman of the sub-committee. Although the executive agreed to the reoommendation as set down by the committee that the newly-affiliated harrier clubs be considered eligible to compete in the B grade championshin, it could not see a way clear to ratify the application for the £lO grant. The chairman of the executive, Mr. A. C. Kitto, stated that the centre, owing to recent financial commitments, could not accede to the request this. year. The decision had been arrived at only on account of the centre’s financial position, and there was nothing to indicate that it would not be made in other years. He regretted the committee could not receive the grant this year, but felt sure that it could raise the requisite travelling amount.
