Telegraph Pole Collapses LINESMAN’S ESCAPE Dominion Special Service. Levin, August 3. A mishap of an unusual nature occurred on Tuesday afternoon, when a telegraph pole crashed without any warning, precipitating a workman to the ground. The incident occurred close to the Otaki saleyards, where some repair work was being effected. Linesman L. Ingram was on the pole about, 20ft. from the ground. When it came down' he managed to throw himself clear and escaped with a shaking and minor injuries. The pole, which was of ironbark, had rotted away just beneath the ground, the sound portion being only about one Inch in thickness.
