TERMS REJECTED
West Coast Coal Dispute DECISION OF MINERS Further Conference Fixed By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, August 2. The terms proposed as the result of the recent Westport conference between the coal miners and coal owners for a new agreement covering the West Coast collieries have been submitted to the unions, who have rejected them. It is hoped, however, that a stoppage will be averted, as a fresh conference has been arranged. Interviewed to-day, Mr. William Purdie, secretary of the West Coast Miners’ Council, said the decision had been communicated to Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the Coal Owners’ Association, with a request for another conference, preferably on the West Coast, to see if an amicable settlement is possible. It is also suggested that work continue in the meantime under the terms of the old agreement.
In his reply Mr. Bishop stated that the owners had Instructed him to state that if the miners sent a deputation to meet them at Wellington on Wednesday, August 10, they would permit work to continue under the old terms in the meantime. It Is understood that tne miners are sending delegates as the owners suggest.
