The cricket test trial, the first representative iriatch of its kind ever to be played in Wales, was interrupted by rain. As the wicket was unlikely to provide even a remote resemblance to Australian conditions, there was some criticism regarding the playing of the trial at Cardiff.

England batted first and made 180 runs for -three wickets. Bowling for the Rest, Larwood found the foothold insecure, but with the total at 12 he succeeded in. having the Nawab of Pataiidi dismissed. This was the occasion of the Indian’s first trial as partner to Sutcliffe in opening an innings. Duleepsinhji again did well, and, after the .dismissal of Sutcliffe and Hammond. he became associated in a good partnership with Jardine.
