WHIRLWIND BLOWS
Reggie Meen Knocked Out PETERSEN’S DEADLY RIGHT (Rec. July 13, 7 p.m.) London, July 13. Jack Petersen, who is 20 years old and resembles Georges Carpentier, after a year’s experience in professional boxing, knocked out Reggie Meen in the second round at Wimbledon, winning the British heavyweight championship and Lonsdale Belt. Meen was slow and ponderous. He hammered Petersen’s body and face with terrific left hooks and the latter was soon covered with blood. At one time Petersen was on the verge of collapse, but boxed on grimly. Suddenly he saw an opening. He flashed in a deadly right and sent Meen to his knees for six seconds, the bell saving him. In the second round Petersen leaped like a panther on Meen, who was unable to escape his whirlwind blows. Finally Petersen landed a tremendous right which lifted Meen clean oft his feet. George Cook is willing to meet Petersen for the Empire championship if negotiations with Gains fail.
