Appeal for Food
Sir, —With your permission we would like to make known to the residents of Newtown the activities and needs of the relief committee. Owing to the shortness of funds and the increasing distress among the unemployed, it has become necessary to open a food and clothing depot in the old dental hospital buildings in Hospital Road.
In order to increase our supplies a “pound scheme” has been launched, the idea being that aU disposed to help give weekly, or as often as possible, a pound of food of some kind. Donors may leave their gifts at Misses Bryenron's fruit shop, 142 Riddiford Street, in a box provided for the purpose. Liberal contributions are being made by butchers and bakers, and if the general public will support the pound scheme much more can be done to meet the growing need of our fellow citizens. Donations of any kind, including baby foods and milk tokens, will be very acceptable.—l am. etc., For the Relief Committee— W. R. MILNE, Convener. June 25.
