Attempts were made at Petone during the week-end to break into three shops, whose front doors bear the marks of attempted entry. The shops concerned were those of R. W. Toomath, chemist, J. Ewart, tobacconist, and R. Durrant, tobacconist. In no case did the thieves gain an entry.
