ECONOMIC UNITY
British Empire’s Need FOREIGNERS’ ADVANTAGE Sydney, June 23. “It has always been a mystery to me why there is so much difficulty in getting the British people to think of themselves as one great unit,” observed Mr. Stanley Bruce-, Assistant Federal Treasurer, in a speech before the Royal Empire Society, Sydney, on the eve of his departure for Ottawa. He added that every other nation had the advantage over the British Empire in this respect. "Unless we achieve economic unity we shall face world trade isolation,” he said. He mentioned that the United States was au economic unit and Europe, by reason of American competition, was coming closer toward economic unity with the removal of Customs barriers between Its nations. Unless the British Empire was welded into a third economic unit its members ultimately would link up either with the European or the American unit.
