New Atlantic Record (Rec. June 23, 5.5 p.m.) Official Wireless Rugby, June 22. The Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Britain reached Cherbourg yesterday after breaking all existing speed records on the run from Canada. From Father Point, Quebec, to Cherbourg her time was 4 days 7 hours 58 minutes. She carried 700 American and Canadian tourists, most of whom landed at Southampton. Her average speed was 24.83 knots an hour. TASMAN RECORD BEATEN Monterey’s Fast Run Sydney, June 23. The Matson liner Monterey, from Auckland, completed her Tasman voyage in under ,63} hours, thus beating the Aorangi’s record of 724 hours. Although she has beaten the Niagara’s old record of 3 days 23 minutes, it is not certain that the Monterey has broken the record made by her sister-ship, the Mariposa, when she reached Sydney from Auckland on May 26 last. The message states that the Monterey completed the trip in under 63} hours, while the Mariposa’s actual time was 63 hours 9 minutes. the average speed being 20.22 knots.
