OBITUARY

Rev. A. Bruce Todd LEADING PRESBYTERIAN Tlie sudden death, at tlie age of 82, was reported yesterday of the Rev.'.A. Bruce Todd, 8.A., a widely-esteemed and prominent figure in tlie Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for the past 44 years. During recent years lie had been in charge of the Karpri Presbyterian Church. Born at Oiunaru in 1860, Mr. Todd was tlie son of the late Rev. A. Bruce Todd, who was a very well-known Presbyterian minister in the Oaiuaru district. He received his education at tlie Otago Boys’ High School and the Otago University, and was first appointed a minister at Macrae’s, Otago, in 1886. Later, he was moved to Geraldine, where he laboured until about 1920, when he came to Petone. After serving there for some time, he resigned tlie charge and was appointed secretary of the Home Missions Committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, a position which he filled until his retirement in September. 1925. The late Mr. Todd was for forty years identified with the committee of the Aged and Infirm Ministers’ Fund and Widows and Orphans’ Fund of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and was convener of that committee for thirty years. He leaves a yj'J. 0 "’ and one daughter, Mrs. Inglis, of Innai The funeral will leave his late residence, 24 Northland Road, at 3 oclock this afternoon. Mr. Harry Hannah Mr. Harry Hannah, one of the pioneer settlers of the Wairarapa, died tliis week at Onehuiigit. The late Mr. Hannah, who was born in Carterton 73 years ago. was recognised as a sterling settler. After being m business in Carterton for some years, he became an employee of the late Mr. Peter Lee McLaren, of Ngakonui Station. in 1895. During his connection witli that station. Mr. Hannah helped to clear many acres of bush and scrub. After leaving Ngakonui, Mr. Hannah was in charge of the McLaren family’s Te Whiti property until failing health compelled him to relinquish active work He then went to live in the Auckland district. It is an interesting fact that the late Mr. C. R. Carter, after whom Carterton was named, resided with the Hannah fam-1 ily in the early days.
